Push Piers Installed on Settling Foundation in North Ridgeville, OH
Challenge
A homeowner in North Ridgeville, OH noticed severe stair step cracking on his covered porch. It appeared to be pulling away from the rest of the home. This is a telltale sign of settlement. Foundation settlement can occur when the soil beneath the home moves or compresses, causing the foundation to shift. This customer found that Cleveland Basement Systems was his local foundation expert and was quickly set up with a free in-home estimate.
Solution
On the day of the estimate the inspector affirmed that the horizontal cracking was indicative of foundation settlement. He thoroughly explained to the homeowner that push piers would be a great solution because they provide quick installation, minimal disturbance and will stabilize the foundation once and for all. The customer was then set up with an install date!
On the day of the project, the foundation crew began by digging up the dirt all the way down to the footers. This allowed them to prep the piers to be pushed far under the earth and attach to the footers for stability. A specially engineered steel bracket was then attached under the footing. The steel piers were drilled through the bracket into stable soil using a powerful hydraulic system. The weight of the home was moved onto the piers and a lift was performed to bring it back to its original position. Once permanently stabilized, installers backfilled the ground and cleaned the work area. The entire system was now hidden from view while protecting the structural integrity of the home.
