Waterproofing and Foundation Solutions Installed in Leaky Basement in Stow, OH
Challenge
This homeowner in Stow, OH was noticing water damage and bowing walls in her basement. She was in the process of remodeling her home and planned on finishing the basement but wanted to correctly fix the water and foundation problems before doing so. She found that Cleveland Basement Systems was her local expert that could help fix both of these problems. She called in and quickly got scheduled for a free in-home estimate.
Solution
The inspector arrived to the estimate and began evaluating the entire basement. He noticed that the walls and floors had water stains on them. Water stains is a sign that moisture in the soil is finding it's way through and not correctly being drained. On top of this, a section of the walls were bowing. Wall bowing is a signal of a foundation problem and suggested that water buildup in the soil was pushing against the basement wall. The inspector sat down with the customer and explained that the following products would fix and prevent further damage: CarbonArmor, CleanSpace, WaterGuard, IceGuard and TripleSafe.
The installers arrived to the customer's home on the day of the project and began working to waterproof and stabilize the basement. They began prepping for installing the CarbonArmor straps by grinding a thin layer of the wall. This allows the carbon fiber, epoxy product to adhere correctly. Then, an epoxy resin is applied to the wall and the carbon fiber strap is attached. CarbonArmor resists further bowing by keeping the walls firmly in place.
After the foundation work was done, installers began prepping the basement for waterproofing. They started by jackhammering along the perimeter of the floors so that WaterGuard can sit even to the floors. They then drilled weeping holes to allow any outside water from the walls to be caught in the WaterGuard system. WaterGuard is then laid and surrounded by river rock. WaterGuard is a no-clog drainage channel that catches water leaks from both the floors and walls and directs them to a sump pump. The crew then installed the TripleSafe sump pump in the optimized spot of the basement and attached the IceGuard discharge line system to it. TripleSafe is a reliable, durable sump pump with three separate pumps. The first pump works most of the time and can handle up to 2,600 gallons of water per hour by using a 1/3 horsepower pump. The second pump automatically turns on if the first one ever fails or there is too much water and can handle 6,200 gallons an hour. The third pump is battery operated and ensures that the sump pump will still operate in a power outage. Then, the IceGuard system is installed to make sure that water can escape from the line and prevent flooding during freezing temperatures. Finally, the CleanSpace wall covering was securely attached to all walls. CleanSpace not only provides a clean, bright appearance, but also resists mold growth and water vapor damage. This 20mil thick material will never rip and will direct water seepage to the WaterGuard.
This happy customer can now continue working to remodel her basement and can have peace of mind that her basement is dry.
