CleanSpace and SmartJack Restores Crawl Space in Twinsburg, OH

Challenge

This customer in Twinsburg, OH noticed sagging floors and a foundation with signs of settling. This issue was stemming from the dirt crawl space below the home. Dirt crawl spaces can be hostile environments. Dirt crawl spaces allow high moisture from the earth's ground to seep into your home and cause structural and water damage. This homeowner knew that he needed a solution before the problem got worse. He called and was scheduled with a free in-home estimate.

Solution

The inspector arrived for the free estimate and began assessing the inside of the crawl space. He noticed that the wood beams were rotting due to high humidity levels. He advised that Cleveland Basement Systems install the CleanSpace encapsulation and SmartJack stabilizing system to waterproof and support the crawl space! The inspector made sure to answer any and all questions as well as provide a detailed, written quote. The homeowner was then assigned a project date!

On the day of install, our expert crew arrived to the customer's home and began working to repair the crawl space. They first began by installing the SmartJack stabilizing system. The crew excavated a two-foot cube of soil at each location. The holes were then filled with concrete to create a load-bearing footing. This 'Bulb of Significant Stress Influence' reduces stress on the original soil by 90 percent. The SmartJack system is the only solution that solves the core issue: weak soils under your home.

The next step in this project was installing the CleanSpace encapsulation system on all of the walls and floors of the dirt crawl space. The crew first added SilverGlo rigid foam board insulation to the walls in order to provide a consistent R-Value. SilverGlo is also reflective, so it correctly bounces heat back into the crawl space. Next, drainage matting is added to the dirt floor. This product is a dimpled drainage matting system that collects water from the crawl space floor and directs it to the perimeter drain. Finally, CleanSpace is securely attached to the entire crawl space. CleanSpace is a vapor barrier that prevents humidity from passing through. Additionally, CleanSpace is a 20mil thick material that is rip and tear resistant.

Installers perform a final walkthrough with the customer and show the work done. This customer was excited to have a safer, drier and stabilized crawl space!!
